“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (though applicable to all Christians, a special call for Clergy)

Beloved Creator, Blessed Redeemer, Sanctifying Spirit: We come today to honor those who are retiring from the life of itinerant ministry. May they continue to serve you according to your call for the rest of their lives.

We come also to Commission those you have more recently called to this ministry as Provisional Deacons and Elders, and to Ordain those whose calls have been confirmed through trial and service.

Beloved, in your service is both severe labor and transcendent joy. This joy comes from dwelling in your presence and from that same service. Give strength to those being Commissioned as they take up the mantle of those who went before. Give confirmation and joy to those being ordained as they receive the stole sealing them in your service for life.

There is no greater joy than serving you, your people, and your church. Make them brave in defending peace and justice, and make them examples of your perfect love. Feed them on your wisdom.

We pray these things in Christ’s most holy Name, Amen.
