ANNUAL CONFERENCE
June 10-12, 2021

WHAT IS AN EQUALIZATION MEMBER?

Equalization Members are lay people who are able to vote on business items at Annual Conference. They ensure there is an equal balance of clergy and lay eligible to vote. There are a limited number of equalization members available for each district.

WHO CAN BE AN EQUALIZATION MEMBER TO ANNUAL CONFERENCE?

Anyone who: Has been an active participant in The United Methodist Church for at least four years AND

  1. Has been a professing member of The United Methodist Church for at least two years.
  2. Exceptions to this rule may be granted to persons under 30 years of age.

The Equalization Members Willingness to Serve Form is a process, which aligns with our other practices within the Indiana Conference to gather names of those who are willing to serve the Annual Conference (please reference General and Jurisdictional Willingness to Serve, and Conference Nominations’ Volunteer Form).

The Equalization Members Willingness to Serve process provides for an equitable means of communicating this opportunity broadly throughout the Indiana Annual Conference to provide a catalog of names for District Operational Teams to select persons who will represent their district as delegates to the Annual Conference Session.

The Equalization Members Willingness to Serve process does not guarantee anyone the opportunity to serve (even if you have served in this capacity in prior years).  The process provides an opportunity for District Operational Teams to make a well-informed decision regarding those who will serve to represent the diversity of their district.

The process can be found in our 2020 Indiana Conference Rules and Structure document.

The submission deadline has passed.
