Council of Bishops

All bishops, active and retired, are members of the Council of Bishops. Bishops serve as shepherds of the Church, overseeing the work of jurisdictions within North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

In the United Methodist Church tradition, bishops are not “ordained” as bishops, but are rather clergy who are elected and consecrated to the office of the bishop within each conference.
