Brothers and Sisters,
As Hurricane, now turned Tropical Storm Harvey continues to plow through the southern United States, we will continue to be steadfast in prayer.
Harvey has made landfall for the second time and is now, in addition to Texas, targeting Louisiana with unprecedented flooding levels exceeding 50 inches in some areas. So far, 30 deaths have been reported due to the magnitude of Tropical Storm Harvey.
I ask that you continue to pray with me for our brothers and sisters and respond with extravagant generosity as we commit to support those impacted by Tropical Storm Harvey.
Let us join in prayer:
“Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.”
– Psalm 16:1
We pray for protection, we pray for relief, and we pray for God’s love and hope to abound in the days ahead.
As record-setting rains and unprecedented flooding impact more communities, we pray for the first responders and countless volunteers who put themselves in harm’s way to be a help for others.
We pray for families who must now grieve the loss of a loved one. Especially today, we lift up the family of Sgt. Steve Perez, a 34-year veteran police officer in Houston who died while driving through floodwaters to aid in the response to Hurricane Harvey. His death is a reminder of the sacrifice first responders make to save others simply because, as he said, “we have a job to do”.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Amen.
Together we are more,
Bishop Julius C. Trimble
