The Bail Project Provides the Incarcerated with a Second Chance

The US criminal justice system harbors more people in prison that any other country in the world, surpassing China and Brazil, also on the list for having an astounding amount of prisoners. More alarming is that a large majority of people in incarcerated in US prisons are waiting to make bail. Hope Trimble of Broadway UMC, introduced Indiana representatives to the The Bail Project, which seeks to give prisoners a voice by posting bail up to $5,000 to release people out of Marion County Jail. Last May, Pastor Kristine Marshall was approached by a college student who said he had never been baptized and felt a tug on his heart to take that step in his faith. Marshall announced to the Anderson Bethel United Methodist congregation that they were going conduct baptisms and invited them to talk with her if they felt call of the Holy Spirit. 17 people responded, including one of Pastor Kristine’s daughters.
