Bishop Julius C. Trimble is pleased to announce the selection of Serena Acker to serve as the full-time Communications Officer for the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church effective Monday, December 10, 2018. In this role, Serena will oversee the production and distribution of communications throughout the Indiana Conference.

“We are excited to have Serena join the Indiana Conference as we continue to explore and define ways we communicate the work and mission of the Church to our servant leaders as we live into what it means to be a fully sent Conference by 2020,” says Bishop Trimble. “We look forward to the ways her expertise and creativity will bolster communication strategies at the Conference level, connect us to our local churches, and further our disciple-making mission.”

Serena comes with a wealth of experience in communications, public relations, and project management from her past roles with Rolls-Royce on behalf of the Carlisle Group and with Grace Church in Noblesville. Acker is a graduate of Taylor University and worked at her alma mater post-graduation as the University Editor winning awards for the Best Alumni/Institutional Magazine. She attended Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction in 2014 and currently serves as an Elder at Common Ground Northeast.

Serena states, “Truly, it is an honor to partner with The United Methodist Church to communicate compelling messages that support its mission and vision. I’m thrilled to become part of the Indiana Conference family.”

According to Serena, “I was born, raised, baptized, and dedicated my life to Christ at Richvalley United Methodist Church.” She also faithfully attended Camp Adventure and Epworth Forest during her formative teenage years.

Serena lives with her husband Jonathan, along with their two cats, in Westfield, Ind.
