DIANE LYNN PURNELL, wife of the Rev. George Purnell, a retired elder of the Indiana Conference and former superintendent of the Southwest District; died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Simon Cancer Center, Indianapolis, of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5130 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville at 3:00 p.m. Saturday June 3, 2017. A time of gathering to remember Diane, as well as visit with family and friends will be held prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church. She is survived by: husband of 37 years, George; daughter, Sarah Purnell of Taos, New Mexico; stepchildren, Daniel Purnell of Evansville; Dawn Purnell Furlong of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Dustin Purnell of Evansville; three sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
The Purnells served in ministry together in the following settings: Pittsboro (1987-1995); Evansville Aldersgate (1995-2003); Bloomington First (2003-2011), and the Southwest District, based out of Evansville, (2011-2016).
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church (address above) to be distributed evenly to support the Kenyan Mission of Aldersgate and to P.E.O.
