Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Mary and Martha.

Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

What do all of these have in common? They were stronger together. They knew that life was meant for community. They knew that isolation leads to spiritual death. They knew that if anything good was to happen, it would be because they stuck together. They were stronger together.

I want the North District to be just like them…stronger together. I don’t want us to just believe it. I want us to live it.

One way I want us to live it is by making sure all of our churches are communicating the essence of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: everyone is of sacred worth and everyone has something to contribute.

Another way I want us to live out being stronger together is for us to literally gather in person at Lakeville UMC (the most centralized church in the District) on Saturday, August 20th from 11:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. (ET). This is a FREE outdoor worship festival that will include inspiring speakers, uplifting music, food, fellowship, games, and much more.

The task force putting this on knows that I am expecting 500 of us in attendance that day (that is only about 5 per church). Get your calendar out right now…go ahead…I will wait! Mark August 20th down and start talking about who else is going from your church.

When it seems like we are getting burnt by trials and temptations, remember that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were stronger together.

When grief is met by the overwhelming joy of resurrection, remember that Mary and Martha were stronger together.

When all you see is chaos and nothingness, remember the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer are stronger together.

What say you, good United Methodists of the North District, will you be stronger together?
