In 1975, five Korean students from Indiana University met at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for prayer and Bible study. They could not have anticipated all that God would do.

Six years lateron October 18, 1981Bloomington Korean United Methodist Church was chartered with support from the Southern Indiana Conference.

Being near to the IU campus makes for a unique ministry context. The congregation welcomes many Korean young adults studying at IU for worship, community, and spiritual growth. They are a spiritual and tangible “home away from home.” The congregation then bids them farewell when their studies are completed, sending the students out to continue spiritual impact.

In celebration of these four decades, the congregation held a weekend of events and special services on October 15-17, 2021. This included sharing meals together, visiting the Ark Encounter, and worshipping together. The vibrant worship service on October 17 included a prayer from Bishop Trimble for the congregation and testimonies from founding members about the ways they’ve witnessed God’s faithfulness through the past 40 years.
