The following is a reminder and call to prayer from Conference Prayer Coordinator Darlene Neckers as we prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving, Advent, and all that is ahead of us as the Church.

On November 22, we will celebrate Thanksgiving — a day set aside to express gratitude. Every day can be Thanksgiving because there are always reasons to be thankful. Also, Thanksgiving Day marks the beginning of the three months leading up to the special-called General Conference in St. Louis, February 22-26. While many prayers have been lifted up for this conference, we need to continue to be fervent in our prayers as we discern a Way Forward for our denomination. During the approaching holiday and winter season, let’s continue to seek God.

  • Worship God. God is worthy of all glory and honor and praise. (1Chronicles 16:23-31, Psalm 100)
  • Recognize the enemy. Our battle is not with one another. The enemy is a master at division and disorder.  (1 Peter 5: 8&9)

Let us stand firm by the power of the Holy Spirit.

There will be changes. Ask God to prepare us for the transition. Many question whether to leave the denomination or stay. There will be many issues to be resolved, involving many details. Let us draw near to God seeking guidance.

Remember even though there is, and will be, much change around us, God is the same yesterday, today and forever as Hebrews 13:8 reminds us.

We need wisdom, God’s wisdom. “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17)

Pray for Godly wisdom for our Indiana Conference delegates, as well as all others from around the world. This responsibility entrusted to them is something they take seriously. Pray for their protection.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.”   Col. 3:15
