The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) brings people together to harvest and share healthy food, reduce food waste and build caring communities by offering nourishment to hungry neighbors. Gleaning lies at the heart of SoSA’s work and mission. Gleaning is the act of collecting excess fresh foods from farms, gardens, farmers’ markets, and other sources in order to provide it to those in need. In this role, you will improve access to healthy food for those who are food insecure by organizing and supervising gleaning events, building volunteer capacity, engaging social media, assisting with fundraising efforts, and leading educational activities. We are looking for someone who is passionate about food access, agriculture, and food waste, who is engaging, and who demonstrates compassion for others. This role will allow you the opportunity to grow as a leader, network with farmers, volunteers, and hunger relief agencies, engage in non-profit fundraising and explore educational avenues within various communities. The position also offers: Camaraderie with several other VISTAs serving under the Indy Hunger Network umbrella, Team engagement activities, including bi-weekly meetings to discuss projects, socialize, and hear from guest presenters, Mentoring, one-on-one coaching, and professional development training, Assistance preparing for life after VISTA (resume review, interview prep, etc.), Opportunities to work with leaders in the hunger relief space, and Opportunities to work independently and lead on projects.
