Creation Care

Social Principles: The Natural World in The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church reads this, “All creation is the Lord’s, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it. Water, air, soil, minerals, energy resources, plants, animal life, and space are to be valued and conserved because they are God’s creation and not solely because they are useful to human beings. God has granted us stewardship of creation. We should meet these stewardship duties through acts of loving care and respect.”

Following the words in Social Principles: The Natural World in The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church, The Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church seeks to be a steward of creation. We, too, can do this by recycling, avoiding Styrofoam use, using cloth grocery bags instead of plastic, planting a community garden, and so much more! We are surrounded by God’s creation, and caring for creation brings glory to our God who designed it.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…” -Romans 1:20

Just as this verse declares, creation reveals the character of God. Through the visual and physical demonstration of creation, and the ways we care for it, we may connect to who God is as Creator and how we are to be his stewards on earth.
