INDIANAPOLIS — Bishop Julius C. Trimble is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Chris Nunley to serve as the Conference Superintendent serving the North Central District. He succeeds the Rev. Michelle Cobb, who will enter into a new ministry opportunity at the close of her tenure on the Extended Cabinet June 30, 2018.
Nunley brings a broad background and mix of skills to the role of the Superintendency. Prior to answering the call to ordained ministry, Nunley worked in the business industry for several years with Shane Co., an industrial tool company, and as an agent with Prudential Insurance.

“Rev. Nunley is an experienced pastor committed to helping us live into our missional potential. I appreciate that he asks critical questions and engages with clergy and laity as we live and learn together,” said Bishop Trimble.
A life-long United Methodist, Chris grew up in Lapel, IN where he and his family attended Ford Street UMC. During this time, he was confirmed, married, and served in a range of leadership roles including youth ministry leader and church lay leader.

Ordained a Deacon in 1997 and as an Elder in 1999, Chris has served in various ministry roles throughout Indiana. During seminary, he began his professional ministry career at Kokomo Alto UMC as a student pastor and subsequently as the lead pastor. He previously served Valparaiso First UMC as an associate pastor, Crown Point Church of Four Seasons UMC as lead pastor, and currently serves as the lead pastor of Newburgh UMC.

“The opportunity to serve, help shape, and support the ministry in Indiana in this capacity is both exciting and daunting. I am honored to have the confidence of Bishop Trimble, the Extended Cabinet, and my family as I look forward to “coming home” and getting reacquainted with the churches of the North Central District,” said Nunley.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ball State University and Master of Divinity from Anderson University School of Theology.

Chris is married to Peggy and the couple has three adult daughters, Sarah Miller, Associate Pastor of Elkhart Faith UMC; Allison Nunley, Operations Manager of Ulta, Inc.; Hannah (Joe) Kelly, Stylist, and parents to four young children; Meredith Nunley, Front Line Management Team at Target who is engaged to Hunter Lant and expecting their first child in March.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys spending time with family, playing games, reading great novels and biographies, sailing, traveling the world — especially areas with Biblical significance. He also enjoys learning about Biblical Archeology and collecting antiquities.
