The Brightwood Community Center Board of Directors knows BCC is much more than just a building: it is a place of creativity, learning, and empowering.
The summer SPARK program is in its last week of the summer equipping youth through inspired programming.
SPARK stands for Service, Passion, Achievement, Responsibility, and Knowledge.
Through SPARK, children receive homework assistance, recognition and celebration for achievements, hot meals, and free books.
When Lisa Morris visited this past week, she saw smiles, laughter, and celebration as they were led by Marian University Summer Learning Institute (SLI) graduate students.
The Summer Learning Institute commits all its resources to math learning activities. Research on summer learning loss has shown that over one summer, youth can lose up to 2 to 3 months of grade-level math skills. Kids living in low resource areas are most at risk! SLI serves youth at 15 SYPF-funded sites in Indianapolis. They are fiercely committed to changing the landscape for Indy's kids in need.
