Rev. Mitchell C. Gieselman was installed as Conference Superintendent of the Southwest District Sunday, September 17th, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Evansville. Clergy and laity from across the state gathered to celebrate and welcome Gieselman into this new appointment.
During the covenant service, Bishop Julius C. Trimble instructed Gieselman to, “Bring your humility with you and your humor but bring your hunger to be pleasing to Jesus Christ. Bring your listening ears and your voice for justice. Be unapologetically Christian and unashamedly United Methodist.”
In his response, Gieselman issued a challenge through the scripture of Micah 6:8, instructing all to “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
Gieselman encouraged the gathering to remember that Mercy and Justice are not programs. They are not options. Mercy and justice are what God requires.
