The Indiana Conference Commission on Archives and History, in collaboration with, the Indiana United Methodist Historical Society, and the United Methodist Archives at DePauw University is encouraging all United Methodist churches in the Conference to remember and celebrate the 50-year anniversary of United Methodism. For 50 years ago the union between the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church to form The United Methodist Church came to fruition for "Together We Are More."
In the coming weeks, The Commission on Archives and History will offer historical insights about the events that led to the merger, as well as the challenges and opportunities that this new union presented to the Church. As this is a milestone in the life of our denomination, as well as the life of the Indiana Conference, there will be an opportunity during the 2018 Annual Conference session, June 7-9, 2018, to celebrate 50 years of United Methodism and what milestones of mission and ministry have been accomplished here in Indiana and around the world. This historical moment is also a unique opportunity to reflect on the struggles and challenges that we have faced as a denomination, as well as offer repentance and reconciliation where needed. Join us during Annual Conference for presentations and displays that tie together our history and how it has shaped the life of the Church today.
Additionally, the merger will be featured at the annual meeting of the Indiana United Methodist Historical Society gathering on Saturday, April 14, at University Heights United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. More information on these events will be available in coming weeks.
